Write daily

They say it takes approx. one month to build a habit. Well, this can apply to your writing as well. If you write every day for one month, it will become an automatic habit just like brushing your teeth.

Your daily word count is not important. What is important, is that you are writing every day without fail. No excuses. The more you write, the better your writing will become.

The words definitely build up. For example, writing 500 words a day? After 20 days, you have written 10,000 words! Amazing!

Keep a notebook handy

It’s incredible when and where inspiration strikes. To be ready, always have a notebook, pen or your mobile handy. If you’re like me, you’ll have a few notebooks in different places.

When your mind is relaxed, this is when the creative part of your brain will start firing up. I find the best writing ideas come to me when having a shower or doing exercise. Be ready to write those marvellous ideas down!

Read in your genre

One of the best ways to improve your writing is to read books in your genre. You are writing a fiction book? Then read fiction books.

While reading, analyse the writer’s tone of voice, the language and even how they are structuring their chapters/book. You are achieving two things here. Reading for enjoyment and also gathering information and ideas that will help you in your quest to write your book.

Use an editing program

When you’ve completed your writing project, you need to edit it. A must for any writer is an editing program. There are many FREE versions available online, but if you are serious about your writing, it’s worth the money to purchase editing software.

I’ve tried a few editing software programs, but the one I always come back to is ProWritingAid. Click here for details. ⬇️

Learn about writing

You don’t need to pay for a writing course to learn how to improve your writing. Just search online and you will find so much information at your fingertips for FREE. All it takes is your time.

Make a commitment to spend at least one hour a week to learn more about writing. Over time, as you build knowledge and continue writing, you will see significant improvements.

Here to all you aspiring writers out there. You’re exceptional and the world is waiting to hear what you have to say.

Break down your writing into achievable daily sprints and before you know it, you’ll have that writing project or book draft completed.

Be brave and keep writing!
