Colosseum

The Colosseum is one of the most recognised ancient monuments in Rome. Opened in 80AD, it is the world’s largest and longest standing amphitheatre built.

Originally the Colosseum was used as an entertainment venue hosting gladiator contests, animal hunts and executions.

Roman Forum

The Roman Forum was the hub of ancient Rome. The Forum and it’s neighbouring buildings, were the location for political and social events such as; elections, criminal trials, gladiator processions and other activities.

Pantheon

The Pantheon is a former Roman temple with a concrete dome and a central opening. If you look up while inside, you can see the sky through the opening.

The Pantheon is one of the best preserved ruins in Rome and also the burial place of two Italian kings; Vittorio Emanuele II and Umberto I.



Trevi Fountain

The Trevi Fountain is another popular Rome attraction. This famous fountain featured in the iconic Hollywood movies “Roman Holiday” and “Three Coins in the Fountain”.

If you throw a coin in the fountain, you are destined to come back to Rome.

There is an art to coin tossing. Put a coin in your right hand and throw it over your left shoulder. There’s usually an endless line of tourists doing the same, so you will be in great company.

The Spanish Steps is a popular meeting place in Rome and another film location for “Roman Holiday”. There are 135 steps from the base of Piazza di Spagna to Piazza Trinita dei Monti church at the top.

Piazza Navona is built on the site of an ancient Roman Stadium. The Pantheon is close by and the main attraction in Piazza Navona is the Fountain of the Four Rivers.

Once a marketplace but is now a great place to relax, grab a bite to eat, sip a cappuccino or indulge in a gelato.

Vatican City

The Vatican is a small independent state and enclave in Rome. It is also the home of The Pope or the “Holy See” who is sovereign and head of State.

The total area of Vatican City is 0.44 square kilometres and has a wall boundary. Due to its space limitations, the Vatican is one of the few world countries that doesn’t hold foreign embassies in its city.
