Moorea, French Polynesia. You may have seen the photos of this beautiful destination. The real thing will totally blow your mind. Turquoise, light blue and sapphire coloured water. So crystal clear you can see to the bottom. Friendly and curious ocean wildlife.

Wave break
The adventure begins with a trip by speedboat to your first stop, a section of the lagoon that meets the open sea. Surfing is a popular activity here. Surfers are eagerly catching waves. A group of dolphins are known to hang around this area too, if you’re lucky to see them.
Sharks and stingrays
Next stop for some snorkelling in knee deep water with friendly, curious sharks and stingrays. Seeing them up close is an incredible experience. For the first timer, it can be a bit frightening as these animals are usually predators.
These animals are used to visitors with constant contact with humans over the years. To be safe, don’t turn your back and keep the wildlife in front of you.
Also, a kaleidoscope of colour bombards you with different fish swimming through the ocean. After 45 minutes of enjoyment, it’s time to venture out into deeper waters.
Turtles
You must be able to swim here. The water is up to 8 feet deep. You’re in turtle territory now. Turtles of all shapes and sizes are everywhere. Some are relaxing and eating at the bottom of the ocean, while others slowly swim to the surface. Popping their little heads out to get some air and then swim back down to their favourite resting spot.
Watching the turtles is a calming experience. Slowly swimming with powerful flippers propelling them through the water. Seeing the turtles will make you instantly relax.
After a successful few hours of snorkelling, it’s sadly time to head back to shore. With a pocket full of memories and enough photos/videos to fill your social media feed for a month, this adventure is one you’ll never forget.
How to get to Moorea
The best way to get to Moorea is by ferry. Regular ferry services depart Papeete (Tahiti) French Polynesia and the trip takes about 30 minutes each way. The below companies run ferry services between Papeete and Moorea.
